Arthur Guthrie Dockrill

Arthur Guthrie Dockrill, 89, of North Port, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013.

He was born Sept. 12, 1923, in Cambridge, England.

Arthur grew up raising the fens around Cambridge University as his backyard and playground. He served in the RAF during World War II, and married his wife Mary in 1946. In 1950, they immigrated to America, where Arthur had been offered a position as a Lab Instructor in the Physics Department of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich. He enjoyed his work and was proud to have assisted two Nobel Prize winners with their Physics research and teaching. Arthur and Mary remained in Michigan for 34 years before moving to Florida in 1984. He loved Florida, enjoying the ocean, rivers and wildlife.

Arthur is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter, Gillian (Wayne) Bailey; and granddaughters, Alison and Caroline Bailey, all of Tempe, Ariz.

Arrangements are with National Cremation Society of Port Charlotte, Fla.
