ST. PETERSBURG — The small crowd at Tropicana Field was fired up in the bottom of the second inning Tuesday, alternating between booing and cheering as Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon argued with home plate umpire Marty Foster.

Maddon was ejected and play resumed. The crowd continued jeering as Yunel Escobar drove in the Rays’ first run with a single to center field.
