Peace River Center is one of 10 agencies statewide that has been awarded funding by the Florida Legislature for a pilot project focused on treating children with emotional disturbances.
The goals of the project are to offer parents and caregivers of seriously, emotionally disturbed youth a safe option for raising their son or daughter at home and to provide a lower cost alternative to state-funded care such as foster homes, residential treatment or juvenile and criminal justice. The Florida CAT Teams are projected to divert 75-95 percent of admissions from residential treatment, foster care or juvenile justice saving the state more than $280 a day for each child diverted.
