PORT CHARLOTTE — Charlotte County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 15-year-old boy in Port Charlotte for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon on a person 65 or older after he hit his 71-year-old grandmother with a glass lamp. CCSO received a call at 6:01 p.m. Tuesday to an apartment in the 2200 block of Aaron Street. The grandmother told deputies her grandson kept demanding and threatening her to give him $20 and she continually refused. She said she was moving to another apartment so she can get guardianship of her grandson and didn’t have the extra money. The teen asked her again, and when she refused he cursed at her and grabbed a plugged in Tifffany “look alike” glass lamp and threw it at her. The lamp struck her in the face below her eye and on her nose, shattered the bulb, and caused a laceration. The boy then fled the apartment.
The woman said her grandson returned and was very angry. He got into her face and said, “I should punch you in the jaw.” She replied, “Go ahead . . . just hit me.” He did not hit her but continued yelling, and fearful for her safety, she called CCSO. The boy fled the apartment again. A BOLO was issued for him and he was located nearby, arrested and transported to the Charlotte County Jail. After being processed, he was sent to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Fort Myers for 21 days of detention.
