A Port Charlotte man was killed and several people were injured — two critically — in a pair of serious crashes over the last few days.
Gerald Edward Tindall, 33, of Port Charlotte, was fatally injured in a three-car wreck on River Road near Venice on Tuesday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Brittany Nicole Thomas, 20, also of Port Charlotte, who was driving a second vehicle, was critically injured in the crash and flown to Blake Medical Center. Authorities said two men — Ariel Jordan Bryant, 21, of North Port, and Shawn Rooney, 24, of Venice — in a third vehicle, suffered minor injuries in the crash, which occurred at about 10 p.m. Authorities said Tindall was driving a 2002 Ford Mustang south on River Road, just south of Venice Avenue, when his car drifted across the center line of the road. The left front of the vehicle struck the left front of a southbound 2004 Dodge Neon driven by Bryant. Rooney was a passenger in that vehicle, according to the report. Bryant’s vehicle spun out of control and struck a southbound 2000 Pontiac Montana driven by Thomas. The report said all were wearing seat belts except for Tindall. Alcohol has been ruled out as a factor in the crash for all but Tindall. The investigation is continuing. That crash took place after another serious wreck involving three teens, all of whom were injured when the driver lost control of the vehicle Monday afternoon and rolled into a ditch, according to the FHP. Tyler Hartley, 17, of Punta Gorda, was driving a 2004 Ford Ranger south on Grove Boulevard, Punta Gorda, just before 2 p.m. when he lost control of the vehicle. Two other Punta Gorda teens, Tyler Allen, 19, and Phelisha Doggett, 16, were passengers in the car and were both wearing their seat belts. The vehicle fishtailed, then veered off the road before it rolled nearly 66 feet, finally landing in the ditch on the west side of Grove Boulevard, the report states. According to the report, Doggett suffered critical injuries and was taken to Charlotte Regional Medical Center. Hartley, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered serious injuries and was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital. Allen suffered minor injuries.
