SOUTH VENICE — More than 100 middle and high school science and math teachers from Sarasota and Charlotte counties will gather today to discuss how they can enhance the use of technology in their classrooms at the inaugural STEMsmart Educators’ Summit in Venice.

The STEMsmart program is a five-year initiative from the Gulf Coast Community Foundation that is designed to transform how teachers teach and how students learn science, technology, engineering and math. Floyd said the program aims to help fix the disconnect between the jobs that are available in the area and skills that are being taught in the schools that will help fill those jobs once students graduate.
