Congratulations to Charlotte County Public Schools superintendent Doug Whittaker. On Thursday, he was awarded the STAR Superintendent of the Year by the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations during the annual joint conference of the Florida School Boards Association and the Florida Association of District School Superintendents, according to a release from the Charlotte Local Education Foundation.

The award is given to individuals who have shown dedication and enthusiasm in supporting the efforts of their districtwide education foundation. Whittaker became school superintendent in November 2010 and has been actively involved with the CLEF.
