We stopped in front of one of the World War II cases, and I started to talk about the Norden bomb sight, but the visitor interrupted me. “When my plane was shot down, we grabbed ours and I ‘shot it to death’ before we were captured.” This World War II pilot certainly didn’t need my explanation of this particular secret weapon of our military and how the pilots and crew were ordered to make sure it wouldn’t fall into enemy hands.
