T hings in life often go badly when, as a familiar cliché suggests, we “put the cart before the horse.” In last week’s column, my horse was pushing its cart! The value of word order in Ephesians 4:11’s Greek New Testament was minimized. Concerning Christ’s five gifts to His Church, allow me to rehitch the harness.
The word order of the five gifts is “apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers.” Having reviewed Christ’s gift of “prophets” last week, let’s backtrack to “apostles.” Over five to six weeks, we’ll reflect on these gifts as they relate to the Church today.
