Charlotte B. Phelan

Charlotte B. Phelan, 93, of Port Charlotte, Fla., went home to the Lord, Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012.

She was born, March 18, 1919, in New Bedford, Mass., to Howard R. and Adah L. (nee VanHoosear) Carley.

Charlotte received her Registered Nurse degree at Simmons College, The Children’s Hospital of Boston, Mass. She spent 35 years of medical service in Middlesex Hospital in Waltham, Mass., and five years at the children’s hospital in Boston. Charlotte enjoyed her summer home in Chatham, Mass., and her winter home in Port Charlotte. She was a member of and Past President of the Waltham Woman’s Club in Waltham, and also a member of the Port Charlotte Women’s Club, and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 110 in Port Charlotte.

Charlotte is survived by her two stepchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Frederick A. and Howard R. Jr.; and husband, Chester Phelan.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., with Funeral Services at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, 9400 Indian Springs Cemetery Road, Punta Gorda, Fla. Entombment will follow. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to The Salvation Army in Charlotte’s Memory.

Arrangements are by Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home and Cemetery.
