Martha J. Mershon

Martha J. Mershon, 83, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away at her residence Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013.

She was born Feb. 23, 1929, in Brazil, Ind., to William H. Simes and Gertrude Anderson Simes.

Martha came to Punta Gorda, Fla., from South Bend, Ind., in 1970. She was a sales representative for Sears from 1971 until 1985, and won the Sears National Commission sales several times. Martha was a member of the Honolulu First Christian Church.

She is survived by her two daughters, Sandra (AL) Benkner of Punta Gorda, and Debbie (Bob) Stephenson of Port Charlotte, Fla.; one sister, Glendora (Jim) Price of Brazil, Ind.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services are set for 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at Fort Ogden Cemetery in Fort Ogden, Fla. Donations in her memory may be made to Tidewell Hospice, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238-5188. Please visit the online tribute for Martha J. Mershon at www.kays-ponger.com.
