Steve Adams

Steve Adams, 64, of Lehigh Acres, Fla., passed away Friday, Feb. 1, 2013.

Steve was born in Dayton, Ohio, June 27, 1948.

He graduated from E.E. Root High School in 1966, then attended Manchester College and Wright State University. He became a U.S. Marine in 1968, and fought in the Vietnam War. After receiving an honorable discharge in 1974, he attended Indiana University and graduated with a degree in business. Steve concluded his education with a master’s degree in education. His teaching career began at Port Charlotte Jr. High School in 1976; Charlotte High School from 1977-1980; Riverdale High School from 1980-1982; and Immokalee High School from 1982-1983, where he met the love of his life, Pamela. Steve then moved back to Riverdale High School in 1983, and retired in 2011. Along with teaching math, he also was a football, basketball, baseball, softball and swimming coach. He was known as Daddy, Grandpa, Uncle Steve, Mr. Adams, Coach Adams and Dean Adams. Steve was passionate about the students he taught and worked with while serving as assistant principal at Riverdale High School. Upon retirement, he continued returning to Riverdale to help coach football, and currently was coaching the baseball team. He ran the sports clock for volleyball and basketball games.

He is survived by his wife, Pamela Kay; two daughters, Elizabeth Kay and Patricia Kay; granddaughter, Olivia Kay; mother, Miriam of Port Charlotte, Fla.; sister, Jane Hannan; five brothers, Tim (Lois) Adams, Dan (Joy) Adams, John (Sue) Adams, Joel (Ann) Adams and Mark Adams; and 99 nieces and nephews. Steve was preceded in death by his dad, Carl E. Adams.

His gentle spirit of giving to others continues through his donated organs.

Visitation for family and friends will be at 10 a.m., with a Memorial Service at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at New Life Assembly of God, 5146 Leonard Blvd. S, Lehigh Acres, FL 33973. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to his church (New Life Assembly of God); or the Coach Adams Athletic Scholarship (Riverdale High School, 2600 Buckingham Road, Fort Myers, FL 33936).
