PORT CHARLOTTE — When Sandee Pellerin moved to the Parkside section of Port Charlotte more than three decades ago, she remembered never having to lock her doors. Her community, she recalled, was calm and quiet — a place where neighbors really looked out for each other.

Things have since changed, but it’s the memory of those days that moved Pellerin two years ago to head up her Neighborhood Watch Group, and what still keeps her motivated to stay involved today.
