City government offices were closed on Monday for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, but there is no change in residential trash, yard waste or recycling collections, or in commercial collection services within the City of Punta Gorda.

The City Council and County Commission held a joint meeting at which the County Commission directed county staff to move forward with development of an overlay district initially dealing with sign standards and then addressing landscaping, architectural standards, etc., for those properties along U.S. 41 and possibly U.S. 17 in South County near the corporate boundaries of the city. In this manner, land development regulations for properties within unincorporated Charlotte County will closely mirror regulations established within the city.
