Soon after becoming pastor of a Humboldt, Kan., church, we bought a former grocery store to convert the space into a new sanctuary. We estimated our renovation costs as drastically less than repairing the old church, built in 1927.
After removing four big plate-glass windows along the front, we cemented blocks in their place. That area would be overlaid with rock matching the pre-existing limestone exterior.
