A mild dose of optimism for the economy and new directions for the print-newspaper business emerged this week. Leaders in the newspaper game from across the South were in Sarasota for the annual meeting of the Southern Newspaper Publishers.
Old friends from Texas, Arkansas, Virginia, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee were at the Ritz-Carlton, with the exception of a few who elected for less-pricey rooms at a motel down the street and walked over for the meeting. For me it was an easy drive from home.
