Leo W. Malecha
Leo W. Malecha, 89, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Monday, Nov. 19, 2012.
He was born July 17, 1923, in Northfield, Minn.
Leo lived and raised his family in Excelsior, Minn., and moved to Punta Gorda in 1995. He was a World War II Marine Corps Veteran, having served in the Pacific Theater. Leo was an active member of the Marine Corps League, the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus and the Masons, and he also enjoyed traveling, gardening, and spending time with family.
He is survived by his second wife, Lorraine; daughters, Margaret (Ken) Oberg of Barrington, Ill., and Patricia (Apolo) Gonzalez of Carrollton, Texas; sons, Michael (Tammy) of Bradford, N.H., and James (Linda) of Austin, Ark.; grandchildren, Jason (Sara) and Christine Oberg, David (Melissa) and Daniel Gonzalez, Zachary and Nicholas Malecha, and Jarrid Erwin; great-grandchildren, Kevin Gonzalez and Sebastian Oberg; brother, Alois of Arizona; and sister, Lillian Fanelli of Nevada. Leo was preceded in death by his first wife, Adeline M. (nee Tikalsky) Malecha; and sister, Rita Hosford of Rhode Island.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at Windmill Village in Punta Gorda. An additional memorial will take place from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at the American Legion Post in Lonsdale, Minn.; with burial, including full military honors, Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minn.
