Dick Weatherly passed away Monday, November 26th 2012 at home surrounded by family. Born in Punta Gorda, Florida on November 24th, 1934, Dick graduated from Charlotte High School in 1952, and went on to attend Stetson University. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and served abroad in Germany.

Upon returning to Punta Gorda, he became a licensed Realtor and worked for Mackle Brothers Homes and was a member of North Port’s first City Council. In 1968, he opened Weatherly Insurance and Real Estate. He was president of the Charlotte County Board of Realtors in 1972 and in 1974 was elected Realtor of the Year. He was co-owner of Weatherly McCandless Homes, building over 500 local residences and then continued as Weatherly Homes until he retired.

He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Retta, daughter Wendy Schaub (Richard) and son Ken Weatherly (Stacey). He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother John Weatherly, and granddaughter Haley Weatherly.

Dick was an avid outdoorsman and sports fan. He was a community supporter and was involved in several community organizations. His spare time was filled with family, friends, hunting and fishing. A memorial service will be held at Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home in Punta Gorda on Saturday, December 1st with a visitation from 10:30-11:00 and service at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, the family would like all donations to go to Tidewell Hospice.
