Joan Powell, 71, of Port Charlotte, Fla., went to be with her Lord, Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012.

She was the daughter of Frederick and Helen (nee Willis) Powell, born Feb. 15, 1941, in Newark, N.J.

Joan retired from New Jersey Bell (Verizon) after 33 years of service, and moved to Port Charlotte in 1993 from Belleville, N.J. She was an active and dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Port Charlotte, serving for many years in the Awana Sparks program. Joan enjoyed the company of her friends, and spending time with family.

Joan will be greatly missed by her sister, Barbara Worsham; brother, Frederick Powell; longtime friend, Marie Testa; wonderful nieces and nephews; and many friends.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at First Baptist Church of Port Charlotte, with the service in celebration of Joan’s life beginning at noon.
