Lowell R. Heinig

Lowell R. Heinig, 92, of Port Charlotte, Fla. and Stillwater, Minn. passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at home in Port Charlotte.

Lowell was born Dec. 17, 1920 in St. Paul, Minn. to Rudolph and Ollie Heinig and wintered in Port Charlotte from Stillwater.

He was a retired field engineer for IBM and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. Lowell was a member of the Port Charlotte United Methodist Church.

He is survived by a daughter, Katherine Pickford of St. Paul; two sons, Paul Heinig of Stillwater, and Thomas Heinig of New York, N.Y.; friend and companion, Jean M. Williams of Port Charlotte; and five grandchildren. Lowell was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Betty Heinig; two sisters; and a brother.

Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at the Port Charlotte United Methodist Church. The Rev. Brian James will officiate. Interment with military honors will be held at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN. Memorial contributions may be made to the Port Charlotte United Methodist Church, 21075 Quesada Blvd., Port Charlotte, FL 33952.
