Carmelo Piazza, 86, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at Tidewell Hospice of Venice, Fla.

He was born Feb. 7, 1926, in Staten Island, N.Y.

Carmelo moved to Port Charlotte in 1981 from Staten Island. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and was retired from the City of New York Housing Authority.

He is survived by his loving family, including his wife, Josephine Piazza of Port Charlotte; daughter, Pastor Sarah Jansson of North Port, Fla.; son, Charles Piazza of Cape Coral, Fla.; grandchildren, Daniel Caimi, Vinney Caimi and Melissa Caimi; and great-grandchildren, Reid Caimi and Josie Caimi.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., with a service at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at Roberson Funeral Home, Port Charlotte Chapel. Interment and military honors by a U.S. Army Honor Guard will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte. Memorial contributions may be made to Heart of Mercy Ministries Inc., P.O.
