Neil M. Rountree
Neil M. Rountree, 76, native and lifelong resident of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013.
Neil was born on Allen Street in Punta Gorda to Elvin and Marion (nee Moody) Rountree, Dec. 20, 1936.
He graduated from Charlotte High School, and then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Upon returning to Punta Gorda, Neil married Mary Holladay, Oct. 20, 1960. They built a house one block from his place of birth, and that remained home for over 40 years. Neil worked for the family Coca-Cola business before going to work at Budweiser for 15 years. At that time, Neil started Bay Culvert Supply with his lifelong friend, Calvin Flowers, before becoming sole proprietor. Neil worked as a driver for Parts Plus the last 20 years, until his illness. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Rountree; his children, Curtis Rountree and Pamela Rountree; and will always remain “Granddaddy-O” to Whitney Rountree and Darcy Rountree.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, 635 E. Marion Ave., Punta Gorda, FL 33950. The Memorial Service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bob Carlson officiating.
