PORT CHARLOTTE — The Port Charlotte girls basketball team started its quest for a third straight district championship on the right foot Tuesday, and gave Island Coast a lesson in physicality in the process.

Briena Simms scored 16 points and Allison Lindsey added 14 as the Pirates jumped to a big lead early and cruised to a 60-32 victory in their season opener.
