PORT CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte Stone Crabs sent nine men to the plate in the first three innings Tuesday night, and Domingo Tapia sent nine men back to the dugout.
After 62⁄3 innings, Tapia was still going strong. He had allowed one unearned run on two hits and struck out seven. His 94th pitch, a strike to Jeff Malm in the seventh, was a 95-mile-per-hour fastball, a speed most Florida State League pitchers can’t reach in the first inning.
