Elizabeth “Betsy” Leavitt Sinclair 51, of San Marcos, Calif., and formerly of South Weymouth, Mass., passed away peacefully Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, in San Diego, Calif., after a brief illness.

Devoted mother to Melissa, Heather and Courtney Sinclair of San Marcos, she was the daughter of Roberta Leavitt of Rockland, Mass. (formerly of South Weymouth) and was preceded in death by her father, John Leavitt Sr. She is survived by her sisters and brothers: Kathleen Leavitt, of Venice, Joanne and Charles Peterson of Pembroke, Mass., Teresa and Philip Kotsiopoulos of Taunton, Mass., John Leavitt Jr. and his wife, Christine, of Rockland, Mass., and Gerry and Karen Leavitt of East Bridgewater, Mass. She will be remembered as a loving aunt by her 12 nieces and nephews and one grandniece. She was loved by many aunts, uncles and cousins. Before moving to San Marcos, she lived in Modesto, Calif., with her former husband, Matthew Sinclair.

Betsy loved to laugh. Most would say her laugh came from her soul and that it brought happiness to others. Her favorite things to do were read and write; she spent many hours at the beach with book and pen in hand. She loved the ocean and walked the beach almost daily with a cup of Starbucks coffee. She was actively involved in A Course in Miracles, in Temecula, Calif. She became a teacher of the course and led various study groups. Betsy had a passion for helping others understand themselves a little bit better and continually said her life was a classroom and every opportunity was a lesson.

Services: Her family will hold a Celebration of Life in her honor Friday evening, Nov. 2, at Rockland Golf Course, Rockland, Mass.

Contributions: In lieu of flowers, please consider a remembrance in her name to a charity of your choice or to Beacon House of Venice, c/o Mental Health Community Centers Inc. 240-B S. Tuttle Ave., Sarasota, FL 34237.
