Arthur Cecil Elkins, 61, of Nokomis, formerly of West Virginia, passed away unexpectedly at his home Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012.

Born May 2, 1951, to George and Mabel Elkins, he served his country in the U.S. Army. Most recently, he retired as a deputy sheriff with the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office. He also served as a school resource officer for many years at Venice Middle School.

Cecil is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Elkins; dear children Heather Pietz, of Vancouver, Wash., Heidi Ziepeda of Lakeland, Fla., Heath Elkins of Sarasota, Seth Elkins of Newberry, Fla., and Sean Elkins of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and 12 precious grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sisters, Tedie and Teri, and brothers, George and Wally.

Services: The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at Farley Funeral Home, Venice Chapel. A celebration of his life and legacy will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, at Venice Church of the Nazarene, 1535 E.
