Joanne (Monroe) Grimes, of Venice, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013.

She was born April 1, 1964, in Pensacola, Fla. She had been in Venice for many years and worked at PGT for some time.

Joanne enjoyed attending Venice Theatre, fishing and reading. She was devoted to her daughter and grandson.

She was the donor in one of the very first living donor transplants conducted in the U.S. The recipient was her daughter, Patricia.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Grimes) Koch and her husband, Joseph, of North Port, and grandson Preston; her parents, Joe and Claire Monroe, formerly of Venice; her brother, Harry (Mike) Monroe and his wife, Courteney, of Bethesda, Md.; and niece Lola and nephew Miles.

Services: A celebration of life will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 7, at Ewing Funeral Home.
