Virginia L. Severson

The amazing and vibrant Virginia L. “Jini” Severson, a woman whom none of us shall ever forget, died Tuesday, March 12, 2013. in Venice, after a valiant eight-month battle with lung cancer.

Born March 23, 1924, to Don and Esther Reynolds in Sturgeon Bay, Wis., Jini graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School and attended college at Northwestern University, Columbia University and the University of Wisconsin. On Dec. 28, 1946, Jini wed John E. “Jack” Severson, to whom she was married for more than 66 years.

Jini worked alongside her husband as secretary-treasurer of CUB Radio in Manitowoc, Wis. until her retirement in 1990. She also served two terms on the Manitowoc Board of Education, and is a past president of the Manitowoc-Two Rivers Shrine Auxiliary, Manitowoc County Republican Women’s Club and the Lion’s Club Women’s Auxiliary. She was a member of the Venice Presbyterian Church Mary Circle and the PEO sisterhood.

Jini is survived by her husband, Jack, in Venice; sister, Jean (Reynolds) Pooler; son Eric and his wife, LeThuy; son John and his wife, Suzanne; son Dave and his wife, Mary; daughter, Karin (Severson) Harrison, and her husband, Bob; grandchildren Michelle, Erinn, Erik, Autumn, Katy, Steve, Liz, Anh, Carrie and Nicole; great-grandchildren Josiah and Sarai; and one great-grandchild on the way (Nicholas).

Services: A memorial service has been scheduled, with a gathering at 3:30 p.m. and the service at 4 p.m., Sunday, March 24, in the Jacaranda Trace Retirement Community auditorium, 3600 William Penn Way, Venice.
