House Rep: FHSAA board must be fired

Larry Metz, the House representative who sponsored HB 1279 — legislation that limits the Florida High School Athletic Association’s (FHSAA) power over its member schools and students — recently explained the reasoning behind different portions of the bill, including the ouster of current FHSAA executive director, Roger Dearing.

In addition to an overhaul of the FHSAA’s board of directors, the bill limits FHSAA investigations into students’ eligibility to 90 days and cuts the organization’s revenue in half, from roughly $5 million to $2.5 million.
