Lately the night snook fishing has been a little tough. This time of year the water temperature and air pressure are going through rapid changes, and the prey species available are changing. Roll all of this together and the fish we seek to play with can be moody to say the least. The fish are there, but have not been too cooperative — but I’ve got a new trick. I recently went against the grain on my after-dark snook fishing, seeing how the flies I usually use were being ignored.

To help you out, I am tipping my hand and showing you step by step how to tie a fly that has been working very well at the lights. I give you … Les Crevettes de la Nuit (the shrimp of the night). This fly works great for pulling those monster snook lying in wait under the little schoolies. Fish this through the edges of the lights with good tidal movement, and strip it slowly — you want the tide providing most of the action.
