Wading in chilly water

Waders are a great way to stay warm while walking around in chilly water.

Winter time fishing has finally arrived. The waters have cooled and negative tides are here. Reds will be tailing and bigger gator trout will be covering the flats. A few of my latest trips out have produced just that.
Most of the trout we’ve caught lately have been staged in the bigger isolated sandholes and potholes. They have been crashing topwater plugs, slurping jerkbaits and inhaling suspending twitchbaits. The bite’s been pretty good, and it will only get better as the season moves on. You may have to search a bit to find a good fish but there are a lot of big trout out there. Hopefully the new year-round open season won’t make too many of them disappear.
