If you have spent any time in Florida, you know you can’t do much about the weather. That was the case at the Clear Channel Radio Florida 500 Fest kids’ fishing tournament sponsored by Fishin’ Frank’s Bait and Tackle on March 2 at Laishley Park in Punta Gorda.
Although high winds, choppy waters and rain pounded the fishing pier at Laishley Park, it did not stop a brave group of kids from trying their luck as anglers. As was expected, not many fish were caught. In fact, only a 6-inch sugar trout was landed. Shortly after, the tournament was called off, with Spencer Gant walking away with the first-place trophy — the only one awarded.
